Choke Groups

Set CHOKE 1–8 on instruments to link them: when any voice in a group triggers, all other voices in the same group (on any channel) stop immediately. CHOKE 0 disables choke (default).

Classic use: assign open hi-hat and closed hi-hat to CHOKE group 1, so the closed hat cuts the open hat, exactly like a real drummer would play.

Drum pads have their own, separate choke groups, set per-pad rather than per-instrument - see the Drum section of Instrument Engines. A Drum instrument's own top-level CHOKE field doesn't affect its pads at all. Paraphonic CHD chord voices are stopped along with the main voice they belong to.
