ElkTracker uses a drill-down structure: Song → Chain → Phrase → Instrument.

• R (Dive) goes deeper. From the Song screen, R opens the chain under the cursor. From Chain, it opens the phrase. From Phrase, it opens the instrument on the current step. From Instrument on a Sampler, R on the SAMPLE field opens the file browser; R on WAVE > opens the waveform editor.
• L (Back) goes up one level.
• Select + ←→ (or keys 1–8 on desktop) switches between the 8 main screens directly. The Sample waveform editor and Help screen are entered by diving, not by the screen switcher.
